LYNN — Lynn Classical coach Brian Vaughan went stride for stride down the far sideline at Manning Field with linebacker Aidan Dow when the senior intercepted a pass midway through the third quarter.
Vaughan’s fists were pumping in the air as Dow’s 78-yard touchdown return helped the Rams tally their first Thanksgiving win since 2016, in their 106th meeting with Lynn English.
“[These seniors] have been a group of players who have worked their tails off all season,” said Vaughan, whose squad won, 22-9. “I am proud of the way the defense played; proud of the way the offense played. This is a great win for the team and a great win for the program.”
The game was a stalemate before Dow’s touchdown. Occasional rain and wind limited the offense, and the first points were a safety by English.
It remained 2-0 before Classical (7-4) put itself in front for good. Senior quarterback Daniel Gisonno connected with junior Jeffrey Hill for a 9-yard touchdown with seven seconds left in the first half to make it 7-2.
Dow’s interception forced English (6-5) and sophomore quarterback Jesse Maggs into a passing attack, which led to another interception, by Maurice Saqueira, two plays into the ensuing drive.
Five plays later, junior Kalvin So went untouched into the end zone from 14 yards.
English scored early in the fourth quarter on Maggs’s 6-yard pass to freshman Jesse Ofurie, but Dow’s second interception, with 4:07 left, prevented an English comeback.
