Rex Ryan: ‘Nobody likes anything in Boston’

A pattern has emerged over the years when Rex Ryan is preparing his team to face the Patriots. In the beginning of the week, we get happy-go-lucky Rex as he entertains the hometown media. But in the middle of the week, Ryan can get a little testy when he has his conference call with members of the New England media. This year’s call on Wednesday was no different.

Ryan was asked if he regretted his comments about the Bills winning the offseason.

“No, I would regret something I said? No. Never going to happen,” said Ryan. “Really what I meant is our guys did a great job in their commitment. They were totally committed to what they were doing. They came in, they worked out, but it was beyond that. It was guys were in early, out late. What I was trying to say is, man, we had a great offseason.

“It had nothing to do with players who went to other teams or came to our team. It had nothing to do with that. But of course it was blown up that way that we won the offseason or whatever. So I get it.

“You know, I said it, so I’ll take it. I said it. But I think everybody missed the intent of what I was saying, but who cares anyway?”

Ryan has referred to himself in the past as an above-average coach, but on the conference call, he was asked how that could be, given his poor winning percentage against Bill Belichick.

“Well I don’t know. I guess. That’s the way it is,” said Ryan. “You guys would know better than me.”

On Thursday, Ryan was back dealing with the Buffalo media when the topic of Wednesday’s conference call came up. He was asked about his treatment by the New England media.

“I don’t even care. You know, it’s like whatever. It doesn’t bother me at all,” said Ryan, sounding very much like it did bother him. “Let’s face it, we’re here in Buffalo. Nobody likes anything in Boston.”

Ryan was asked if he thinks the New England media like to get under his skin

“Oh please. It’s been, like, seven or eight years,” said Ryan. “It’s the same every time you talk to them, so you have fun with them.”
