President Trump tweeted out congratulations to the Patriots after their historic comeback against the Falcons in Super Bowl LI.
What an amazing comeback and win by the Patriots. Tom Brady, Bob Kraft and Coach B are total winners. Wow!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 6, 2017
Trump’s relationship with the team, particularly owner Robert Kraft, coach Bill Belichick, quarterback Tom Brady, is well-documented. In fact, some New England fans admitted to feeling conflicted about rooting for their team in the run-up to the Super Bowl.
Kraft has said Trump was there for him after his wife, Myra, died.
Brady has questioned why the media considered his friendship with Trump such “a big deal.”
Trump has also referred to Belichick as a “great coach” and wished the Patriots luck on multiple occasions, including before the AFC Championship game against the Steelers.

Trump wasn’t the only politician doling out congratulations. Vice President Mike Pence, who left the Super Bowl before it ended, congratulated White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer — a Patriots fan — on the victory, according to a pool report.
