It looks like Martellus Bennett has bid farewell to Patriots

Several signs pointed to the likely departure of tight end Martellus Bennett from the Patriots this offseason, and he appeared to confirm that would be the case on Twitter Wednesday.

“I’m going to miss you Mass-Holes. T’was Fun. Thank you for the good times. To infinity and beyond...,” Bennett wrote on his verified Twitter account.

Bennett, a free agent who is reportedly seeking $9 million or more per season, spent one season in New England after being obtained in a trade with the Bears last March. On Wednesday, the Patriots obtained tight end Dwayne Allen in a trade with the Colts.


Bennett caught 55 passes for 701 yards and 7 TDs to help the Patriots reach and win Super Bowl LI vs. the Falcons. He was a key contributor, especially after Rob Gronkowski was lost in late November because of back surgery.

Free agency begins Thursday afternoon, although teams have been permitted to discuss deals since Tuesday.
