FOXBOROUGH — Tom Brady missed a second straight practice Thursday, one of five Patriots players not spotted at the start of the session.
Brady had been taking a maintenance day each Wednesday for the past two weeks. With the Patriots preparing for a Monday night game this week, Thursday’s padded session takes the place of a normal Wednesday practice, usually the most physical of the week. That’s what Brady had been avoiding by missing Wednesday practices, so it makes sense that he was absent Thursday.
Still, this is the first time this season Brady has missed more than one practice in a week.
Along with Brady, linebacker Kyle Van Noy (calf), right tackle Marcus Cannon (ankle), and defensive end Deatrich Wise all remained absent after missing Wednesday’s practice. The Patriots did not have to release an injury report Wednesday, so it wasn’t clear what Wise’s absence was related to.
Tight end Rob Gronkowski also was not present, as he is serving a one-game suspension for his late hit on Bills cornerback Tre’Davious White last Sunday. Gronkowski will be eligible to return to practice after the Dolphins game.
Cornerback Malcolm Butler returned to practice after missing Wednesday.
