FOXBOROUGH — The Patriots are bracing to lose both of their coordinators, but Bill Belichick is trying to keep his front office intact.

The Patriots have blocked the Houston Texans’ request to interview Nick Caserio and Monti Ossenfort for their vacant general manager position, according to ESPN.

But Caserio, the Patriots’ director of player personnel and Belichick’s right-hand man, still could land in Houston. The Patriots can only block Caserio from interviewing while the Patriots are still alive in the playoffs, and he can interview once the Patriots’ season is complete, if the Texans are willing to wait.

The Texans also are considering the Bills’ Brian Gaine for the GM spot, but head coach Bill O’Brien has a good relationship with Caserio dating to their days together in New England. A league source said Caserio remains interested in the Texans’ position.

No reason was given for blocking Caserio and Ossenfort, but the Patriots are facing major defections in Josh McDaniels and Matt Patricia, and have a big offseason coming up as they search for another young quarterback.

The Patriots have previously allowed Caserio to look for other opportunities. He interviewed for the Dolphins’ general manager position in 2014, and had contact with the 49ers last year, though he never formally interviewed.

Ossenfort, the Patriots’ director of college scouting, has never interviewed for a general manager position.
