Receiver Julian Edelman was named the most valuable player of Super Bowl LIII on Sunday.
Edelman had 10 receptions for 141 yards in the Patriots’ 13-3 victory over the Rams. Eight of his catches went for first downs.
Edelman became only the third Patriots player to win a Super Bowl MVP award. Tom Brady and Deion Branch are the others.
“It just matters that we won,” Edelman said. “It was a crazy year. We had a resilient bunch of guys. It was unreal.”
Edelman became the seventh receiver to win the Super Bowl MVP trophy. He is second in NFL history in postseason receptions with 115. Only Jerry Rice had more (151).
The Super Bowl MVP award is chosen by selected members of the media and via fan voting on the NFL’s website.
‘‘I’m pretty ecstatic,’’ Edelman said. ‘‘I’m emotionally pooped. I’m physically and emotionally pooped.’’
