Patrick Chung broke his arm in the third quarter of Super Bowl LIII.
It’ll be an offseason of recovery for Patriots safety Patrick Chung.
The veteran was scheduled to have surgery Thursday to repair the arm he broke during the Super Bowl, according to a league source. He will go under the knife again in about three weeks to clean up a shoulder injury he played through during the season.
Chung will miss organized team activities while in recovery, but should be healed up in time for training camp, the source said.
Chung, who broke his right forearm tackling Rams running back Todd Gurley early in the third quarter of the Super Bowl, played 85 percent of the Patriots’ defensive snaps this season, moving from safety to linebacker to nickel corner depending on the situational needs.
His versatility, sure tackling, and ability to cover tight ends make him a valuable piece, something that was noted by teammates after the Super Bowl because of the myriad adjustments they had to make after Chung got hurt.
