Don’t expect Eduardo Rodriguez to return to the Red Sox before some time in May.
The lefthander has yet to appear in a game since injuring his right knee on Feb. 29. He has another bullpen session scheduled for Thursday and will throw live batting practice for the first time on Saturday.
Manager John Farrell said Rodriguez would throw two or three sessions of batting practice before getting into a game. He will remain in Fort Myers for at least a few weeks before starting a minor league rehabilitation assignment.
Rodriguez will have to work his way up to 90 pitches, which usually takes five starts, before being activated. At the pace he is on now, the earliest Rodriguez could return is early in the second week of May.
“We can’t skip any steps here and there will be days of recovery and rest required,” Farrell said.
