Red Sox third baseman Pablo Sandoval’s weight has been an issue all spring, and an incident Saturday did little to silence his critics.
Sandoval, who got his first start of the season Saturday in Toronto, had his belt pop open on a mighty swing during his first at-bat. He struck out vs. Blue Jays starter R.A. Dickey.
Sandoval, who is in the second year of a five-year, $95 million deal with the Red Sox, lost his starting job to Travis Shaw out of spring training. He had one at-bat prior to Saturday, a pinch-hit appearance vs. the Indians.
He also made a throwing error in the second inning Saturday.
