Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz belted home run No. 537 Thursday night, moving past New York Yankees legend Mickey Mantle and into sole possession of 17th on baseball’s all-time list.
His shot came in the bottom of the eighth inning and closed the Yankees’ lead to 5-2.
Ortiz, who plans to retire after this season, is now 11 home runs behind Hall of Fame third baseman Mike Schmidt, who is No. 16 on the all-time list with 548.
