Red Sox vs. Buehler: Kinsler 1-2.
Dodgers vs. Porcello: Dozier 9-45, Machado 13-38, Freese 4-16, Kemp 4-6, Taylor 2-6, Turner 0-5, Muncy 0-1.
Stat of the Day: The Sox are hitting .363 (33 of 91) with a 1.118 OPS with runners in scoring position in the postseason.
Pitching in as a hitter: Games 3, 4 and maybe 5 will be played under National League rules. That means no DH. That might not be so bad tonight. Rick Porcello was 3 for 7 with two doubles and three RBIs this season in interleague games. But since 1975, Red Sox pitchers are 4 for 44 in the World Series with no extra-base hits and two RBIs. The last Sox pitcher to get a hit in the Series was Daisuke Matsuzaka in Game 3 in 2007. Before that you have to go back to Bill Lee in Game 7 of 1975. The only Red Sox pitcher to homer in the World Series was Jose Santiago in Game 1 in 1967 off Hall of Famer Bob Gibson.
What to watch for: Buehler has thrown 170 innings this season counting the regular season, postseason and minors. He threw 98 all of last season. He has to be feeling the effects of that. … The Sox are 9-0 when scoring first in the postseason. … There were only a handful of Dodgers fans at Fenway Park for Games 1 and 2. But there are a large number of loyal Red Sox fans in southern California and they could make their presence known at Dodger Stadium.
World Series wonders: The Sox are 14-2 in the World Series since 2004 and have outscored the Cardinals, Rockies and Dodgers by 50 runs in those games.
Other notes: Porcello has not pitched since Oct. 17, Game 4 of the ALCS, so he should have plenty in his tank. … The Sox have won six straight and eight of nine. … The Sox are 5-0 on the road in the postseason and have outscored teams, 40-13. … Opposing starters have a 7.47 ERA against the Sox in the playoffs. … Manny Machado has 12 RBIs in 13 playoff games for the Dodgers. … J.D. Martinez has not played the outfield since Sept. 28. He has 13 RBIs in 11 postseason games along with a .967 OPS.
