Two with PawSox ties are headed to International League Hall of Fame

Pawtucket Red Sox manager Billy McMillon and former PawSox general manager Lou Schwechheimer are heading to the International League Hall of Fame in 2019.

McMillon, who will manage the Red Sox’ Triple A affiliate in 2019, has served as manager of the Single A Salem Red Sox and most recently manager of the Double A Portland Sea Dogs. He was the IL Rookie of the Year in 1996 with the Charlotte Knights, then a Florida Marlins affiliate, and won two batting titles and three All-Star nods in his Triple A career. McMillon played parts of six seasons in the majors with four clubs.

Schwechheimer was the IL Executive of the Year in 1987 and 1992. He began as an intern in 1978, and went on to spend 37 years with the franchise. He is credited as a driving force behind renovations to McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket.

Schwechheimer and McMillon will be inducted during ceremonies June 22 at McCoy Stadium.

Joining the two in the Class of 2019 are Baseball Hall of Fame manager Bobby Cox and Sam Jethroe, who was National League Rookie of the Year in 1950 with the Boston Braves.

The PawSox will move to Worcester in 2021.
