TUESDAY’S WEATHER: It was overcast but hot and humid as the temperature reached 89.

FUNDAMENTALLY SPEAKING: For baseball purists, it was fun to watch the primary infielders take infield with coach Carlos Febles on Field 2. For this early in the season, the throws were accurate and the double-play turns crisp. Mitch Moreland made a few nice plays at first base and earned some applause.

PLAYER OF THE DAY: Lefthander Bobby Poyner unexpectedly made the team out of spring training last season and is bidding to again. His live batting practice session showed better command than would normally be expected at this time of the year.

SCHEDULE: It will be an expedited workout on Wednesday as the Sox have their annual charity golf tournament to benefit the Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida. The team will be on the field at 9:45 a.m.
