Red Sox get back into game action and beat Northeastern

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Bobby Dalbec showed off his power, and pitching prospects Mike Shawaryn and Darwinzon Hernandez were overpowering as the Red Sox beat Northeastern, 6-0, in an exhibition game Friday afternoon at JetBlue Park.

Dalbec homered to center field leading off the second inning. The 23-year-old hit 32 home runs in 129 minor league games last season.

Cole Sturgeon singled leading off the third inning and scored on a triple by Jagger Rusconi. Tzu-Wei Lin drove in Rusconi with a ground out.

Tate Matheny had an RBI double in the fourth inning and Sturgeon a run-producing ground out.

Tyler Dearden added an RBI triple in the sixth inning.


Shawaryn, 24, worked two innings and struck out two with a walk. Hernandez, 22, had three strikeouts in his two innings on the mound.

Sox pitchers allowed three hits over the seven-inning game.
