SCORE: Red Sox 4, Tigers 4

RECORD: 6-12-1

BREAKDOWN: The Red Sox’ seven-game losing streak came to a halt with a tie against the Tigers. Strong performances by Eduardo Rodriguez (5 innings, 3 runs, 8 strikeouts), Heath Hembree, and Brandon Workman allowed the Sox to take a late 4-3 lead, but the Tigers rallied for a run in the eighth to secure the tie.

PLAYER OF THE DAY: Steve Pearce, playing in his hometown of Lakeland, looked as formidable as the battleship after which his Lakeland High School alma mater derives its nickname (the Dreadnaughts), blasting a pair of homers down the left-field line and driving in three runs. Pearce entered the day 0 for 11 in Grapefruit League action. “It was only a matter of time,” manager Alex Cora said.
