The US U-20 men’s national soccer team earned a spot in the FIFA World Cup quarterfinals thanks to the foot of Revolution forward and South Hamilton native Justin Rennicks.

Rennicks tapped in a rebound in the 83rd minute Tuesday to break a 2-2 tie and give the Americans a 3-2 victory over France at Bydgoszcz, Poland.

Rennicks had subbed into the match in the 63rd minute.

The goal sent the US into a quarterfinal matchup vs. Ecuador at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

Rennick, 20, joined the Revolution this season after signing in January, making his MLS debut March 9.

He has appeared in three of four US matches in Poland, and has played for the US at the U-20, U-18, and U-16 levels.
