    Registration for 2018 Boston Marathon begins Sept. 11

    The Boston Athletic Association announced registration dates for the 122nd Boston Marathon on Monday. Registration for the 2018 race will open on Monday, Sept. 11, at 10 a.m. The same registration process from previous years will be used, which allows the fastest runners of their age and gender to register online first at baa.org.

    Runners hoping to qualify must meet time standards pertaining to their specific age and gender; the times remain the same as last year.

    The initial registration date on Sept. 11 allows runners who met their qualifying times by 20 minutes or more to register. Those who surpassed their qualifying time by 10 minutes or more will be eligible to register Sept. 13 at 10 a.m., while individuals who bested the qualifying time by five minutes or more can register Sept. 15 at 10 a.m.

    If space remains following the first registration period, additional qualifiers will be able to register from Sept. 18-20, with priority given to the fastest qualifiers. Any additional spots will be available on a first-come-first-served basis starting Sept. 25.

    The qualification period for the 2018 Boston Marathon, to be run next April 16, began Sept. 17 and will remain open until the end of registration.
