Third-quarter profit nearly doubled at Best Buy, a positive sign going into the holiday season after last year’s dismal showing. Profit rose to $107 million from $54 million a year earlier, helped by cost-cutting. Revenue rose to $9.4 billion, up from $9.3 billion. Yet Best Buy is still struggling with sluggish sales growth. Sales of consumer electronics fell 0.2 percent, though sales of TVs, computer equipment, and tablets helped raise domestic comparable-store sales 2.4 percent. Online US sales rose 22 percent — faster than last year’s 15.1 percent.
