Fan Pier waterfront office tower topped off

Ironworkers top off the tower Friday at 100 Northern Ave. in the Seaport District. The Fallon Co.

The next office tower to come to Fan Pier crossed a major milestone Friday.

The final steel beams were put in to place near the top of 100 Northern Avenue, a 17-story office tower set to be opened in spring 2016. Located behind the Institute of Contemporary Art, it’s one of eight commercial and residential high-rises that make up the Fan Pier development.

Fan Pier is being co-developed by the Fallon Co., the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co., and Cornerstone Real Estate Advisers. When the building is complete, the main tenant at 100 Northern Ave. will be the law firm Goodwin Procter LLP, which will occupy around 350,000 square feet of the building’s 516,000 square feet of office space.

“With the topping off of 100 Northern Avenue, less than a year after we broke ground on the building, we celebrate the evolution of Fan Pier and our progress in adding to the commercial, residential and retail mix that continues to shape and define the waterfront neighborhood as an ideal place to live, work and play,” Joe Fallon, the chief executive of the Fallon Co., said in a statement.

Last October, the company topped off a 14-story luxury condominium building at 22 Liberty St. that is due to be completed in late 2015. Preparatory work is also being done on a hotel that will be built on the plot of land immediately to the west of 100 Northern Ave.
