Snapshot: Dow slips amid falls in home sales, oil

The slump in crude prices and disappointing US home sales pushed stocks lower Monday. Oil fell $1.36 to $49.45 a barrel in New York as the return of a Libyan oil field raised expectations for more supply. And a report showing a drop in sales of previously occupied homes sank most home builders. UCP shed almost 5% to $8.97. On Tuesday, a consumer confidence report is expected to provide investors with some fresh insights on the economy. Investors were also looking ahead to congressional testimony by Fed chair Janet Yellen. Her remarks could provide guidance about when the central bank will begin raising its key interest rate.
