The high-tech manufacturer Tecomet is shutting down its New Bedford factory, resulting in the layoff of 190 workers, according to papers filed with the state.
The plant has “consistently struggled to make a profit,” Tecomet wrote in a March 30 filing, and it will be shut down along with another facility in Indiana. Its workers, including machinists, technical workers, and administrative staff, will be laid off in four waves over 12 months, starting in June.
Tecomet’s New Bedford plant was previously owned by Symmetry Medical Manufacturing. According to a press release, Wilmington-based Tecomet completed its acquisition of Symmetry in December 2014.
