Boston Marathon documentary nears the finish line

The Boston Marathon movies starring Mark Wahlberg and Jake Gyllenhaal might be getting all the attention, but a third film about the historic road face has been quietly nearing completion. “Boston,” which bills itself as the first feature-length documentary about the iconic race, released a 60-second trailer this week that filmmakers said will make the rounds in Boston in a lead up to Monday’s race. According to the film’s Facebook page, the trailer will appear on the Jumbotron at Fenway Park and near the marathon finish line. Directed by Jon Dunham, the film examines the event’s storied history, while also documenting the 2014 race — a year after the bombing that took three lives and left more than 260 injured. The trailer focuses on four-time Olympian Shalane Flanagan, with appearances from Meb Keflezighi, who won the race in ‘14, and 1986 winner Rob de Castella. The Boston Athletic Association, which is working with the filmmakers, announced the film in 2014, originally pegging its release for late last year.
