Growing up in Dorchester, disco queen Donna Summer gave classmates at the Jeremiah E. Burke High School a preview of future stardom by singing in the glee club and school musicals. Summer, who died in 2012, will now be honored later this spring with a large hallway mural at the Burke. A crowdsourcing campaign by the Dream Builders Youth Project to fund the mural -- target goal: $5,500 -- is underway at www.indiegogo.com. Overseeing the artwork will be mural artist Deme , according to DBYP cofounder Justin Springer , who says it’s high time Summer got more local recognition. “A lot of people don’t even know she’s from Boston,” says Springer. “She gave so much to this city, though, and we want to help preserve her legacy.” The late-May mural unveiling will include a talent show.
