The campaign of Republican congressional candidate Richard Tisei said today he had raised $435,000 in the fourth quarter of 2013, a substantial sum for a Congressional race.

Tisei, who officially launched his campaign to unseat US Representative John Tierney last week, opened a fundraising account in October, which allowed him to begin stockpiling cash.

A former state senator, Tisei ended the year with $394,000 in the bank, his spokesman said.

Tierney’s fundraising report for October through December was not available on the Federal Election Commission’s website Wednesday afternoon. Daniel Rubin, a Tierney spokesman, said the campaign was still working on its report. Tierney had $561,000 in cash on hand at the end of September, according to filings.

A candidate’s fund-raising number is a key metric in determining the health of his or her campaign.

A Democrat who represents the North Shore-anchored 6th Congressional District, Tierney also faces a primary challenge from Seth Moulton, a former Marine, and Marisa DeFranco, an immigration lawyer.

Federal candidates’ fourth-quarter fundraising reports are due to the FEC on Friday.
