2 hurt in Ruggles T shooting

A 19-year-old Dorchester man was arrested Friday night and charged with shooting two men at the Ruggles MBTA Station earlier in the evening, according to a statement from the MBTA police. Both victims suffered injuries that were not life threatening, according to police, and one of the victims was apparently not the target of the shooting.

Terrell Harris was charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm. He is expected to be arraigned Tuesday in Roxbury District Court, according to police.

The shooting occurred at 8:49 p.m. in the lower busway of Ruggles station. A 20-year-old man was shot in the hand and thigh and fled out onto Tremont Street; a 34-year-old man was hit in the calf. Police said the 34-year-old did not know the other victim and probably was not the target of the shooting.

Both victims were taken to nearby hospitals. Harris was arrested shortly after the shooting, police said.

Transit police detectives were seeking a motive for the shooting.
