Woman allegedly asleep at wheel in car

Police arrested a Wareham woman they said was found asleep at the wheel of a car in a Carver driveway Saturday night, with the engine running and two girls asleep in the back.

A caller reported a 2002 Mercury Sable was pulling in and out of the driveway on Tremont Street about 9:20 p.m. Saturday, police said.

Police said they found Jennifer Bangs, 40, asleep in the driver’s seat with the car’s headlights and engine on. Officers woke her up and gave her a field sobriety test, which police said she failed.

Police arrested Bangs and charged her with operating a under the influence of alcohol and two counts of child endangerment. She was scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Wareham District Court. Police released the girls to a relative and a family friend, and notified the Department of Children and Families.

Carver police officer Glenn Gillan declined to say how old the girls are, but did say that one was Bangs’s daughter. It was not clear how Bangs knew the other girl. Gillan said Bangs’s reason for being in the driveway remained under investigation but that she was known to the homeowner.
