A Stonehill College student reported being sexually assaulted on campus early Sunday morning, according to the college.
The student told campus police she was attacked at about 2 a.m. on a pathway near MacPhaidin Library on the college's Easton campus. Campus and Easton police are seeking a male suspect, according to a statement from the college. The only description provided was that the suspect has strawberry-blond hair.
The college issued a warning to the campus at 4:35 a.m., with an update later that also was sent to parents.
Three sexual assaults were reported at Stonehill College during the 2013 fall semester, according to Globe reports.
Two were resolved through the college's Office of Community Standards, and one remains an active investigation, said Martin McGovern, a Stonehill College spokesman, in an e-mail Sunday.
McGovern said the school is increasing patrols on campus and issuing safety reminders to students.
Stonehill College just dedicated Sexual Assault Prevention Week, which ended on Friday.
The college's sexual assault awareness efforts include education in bystander awareness and self-defense training.
"Gender-based violence is a serious issue within our society, one that requires a communitywide response," said Pauline Dobrowski, vice president for student affairs at Stonehill College, in a statement. "We all have a stake in it and play a role in ending [sexual assault] on our college campuses. We use education as a tool to our empower women and engage everyone, especially our men, in collaborating to improve the way we live and interact with each other."
The Stonehill assault is the most recent in a number of campus assaults, including incidents within the last week at Massasoit Community College, Curry College, and Worcester State University.
