A South Boston woman has been ordered to stay away from her ex-boyfriend, a Boston police officer, after she allegedly forced her way into his house and attacked him and his female friend while both were asleep early Monday, according to court records.
Mary E. Niland appeared in South Boston Municipal Court Monday where she pleaded not guilty to two counts of assault and battery and unarmed robbery. Municipal Court Judge Michael Bolden released her on personal recognizance and ordered her to stay away from the alleged victims.
Boston police would not identify the officer because he is considered a victim of a crime, and his name and the name of the woman he was with were both redacted in court records.
According to a Boston police report filed in court, Niland, 24, allegedly found her way inside the former boyfriend’s residence on East Second Street in South Boston at 2:21 a.m. and launched an attack on the officer and the woman, both of whom were asleep.
The victim told officers responding to a 911 call that “Mary Niland broke into his home uninvited and crept up to his bedroom and he and his friend awoke to Niland attacking them in bed,’’ police wrote.
The officer told investigators that he got into a physical struggle with Niland that ended with tumbling down a flight of stairs. Niland was still at the house when police arrived, and although she was bleeding from the face and had a swollen forehead, she initially refused medical care.
Niland’s court-appointed attorney could not be reached for comment.
Niland is due back in court Jan. 5, according to court records.
