Commuter ferries canceled amid harbor icing

The subway and commuter rail are not the only MBTA systems feeling the effects of recent snowstorms. Ice buildup on Boston Harbor is hampering the commuter ferry system as well. The ferry to Hingham has been canceled since Monday, and the ferry to Hull was restored Wednesday after being shut down during the beginning of the week, said Alison Nolan, an official at Boston Harbor Cruises, which runs the commuter ferries for the MBTA. “Significant icing” has been happening in the harbor, as well as along the coast down to Rhode Island and up to Maine, the US Coast Guard said.
