Man found dead with gunshot wounds in Wakefield

A man was found dead in Wakefield Tuesday night, the apparent victim of a homicide, officials said.

The man, who authorities did not identify pending notification of family, was found with gunshot wounds in a vehicle in a wooded area near a Sunset Drive residential area, according to a statement from Middlesex District Attorney Marian T. Ryan and Wakefield Police Chief Richard Smith.

Police found the body after a 911 call to police at 5:45 p.m. reported the crime scene, Ryan said. The crime did not appear to be “a random act of violence,” but police were investigating, according to Ryan.

Smith added, “The Wakefield Police Department is working closely with the District Attorney’s office and we will continue to work with our partners during this investigation. We will pursue all investigative leads.”
