Some Shelton teens are being told their prom dresses do not meet the school’s dress code and they will not be allowed into the dance. Dr. Beth Smith, headmaster at Shelton High School, announced Friday over the intercom that dresses with long slits, cutouts, and backless styles will not be allowed at prom. Parents and teens planned to present a petition to the school board Monday seeking to get those rules overturned. They said they were not told of the requirements before Friday, and that there is not time to buy new dresses before the May 16 dance. Superintendent Freeman Burr released a statement saying the guidelines were put in place well before prom.
