A Rhode Island man charged with stealing 150 gravestones from a veterans’ cemetery and using them in the floor of his garage has pleaded guilty to theft of government property, officials said. Kevin Maynard, 59, of Charlestown , an employee at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter, stole worn and broken granite grave markers over a long period of time and used them as the floor in a shed and two makeshift garages on his property, according to the office of US Attorney Peter F. Neronha and court records. Investigators accompanied Maynard to his home on April 23 and discovered the grave markers, along with a box of American flags also allegedly stolen from the cemetery, Neronha’s office said.
