The head of the Vermont Department of Children and Families said threats against the agency’s staff have increased since a state social worker was killed last month. According to DCF Commissioner Ken Schatz, 17 threats have been made since Lara Sobel was shot outside a state office building in Barre on Aug. 7, the Times Argus reported. ‘‘Our staff are fearful and legitimately so,’’ Schatz told state legislators Friday. ‘‘Our work performance is affected by this.’’ Schatz said he has asked for extra security at six state office buildings, and employees have been told to report all threats. Police say Sobel’s assailant was a woman whose daughter had been taken from her by DCF. (AP)
