A beachgoer stumbled across a man’s body Sunday afternoon while walking in Wellfleet, according to police.
The body was found at 12:34 p.m. by the pedestrian on a beach on Lieutenant Island, Wellfleet Police said in a news release.
The discovery comes after investigators suspended a nearby search for a 46-year-old man whose belongings were found on the beach Friday. He was believed to have been swimming Thursday at Sunken Meadow Beach in Eastham.
Eastham Police and the US Coast Guard, who had searched Cape Cod Bay for the man, said they did not know whether the body located in Wellfleet was related to the case.
