A bicyclist has died after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Boston early Sunday, Boston police said Tuesday.
The victim, identified as 29-year-old Richard Archer of South Boston, was hit by a silver sedan around 3:19 a.m. Sunday in the area of Commonwealth Avenue and Clarendon Street, police said.
Archer was rushed to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries early Tuesday, Boston police said.
Friends and family of Archer remembered him Tuesday as an open and caring person with a contagious smile, and someone who was always ready for the next adventure, the Globe reported.
“It feels unreal that Rick Archer is gone,” said Dorothy Bassett in a note she posted to Facebook, and later shared with the Globe. “Rick had conquered so much and deserved so much more.”
Boston police detectives are examining a silver car with a broken windshield found inside the Boston Common garage Tuesday morning that appears to match the description of the vehicle involved in the crash, according to a law enforcement official briefed on the case.
The driver of the sedan had sped away from the Back Bay crash scene early Sunday and police had posted surveillance images in hopes of locating the vehicle and its driver.
“The motor vehicle is believed to be a 2015-2017 silver Toyota Camry with out-of-state (possibly New York) license plates,’’ police wrote on bpdnews.com. “The motor vehicle is also believed to have damage to the front end and roof, as well as above the driver’s side door.’’
