Worker surrenders in Pa. building collapse

PENNSYLVANIA

PHILADELPHIA — A heavy- equipment operator, who has a lengthy arrest record and is accused of being high on marijuana when a building collapsed onto a thrift store, killing six people, turned himself in Saturday, police said. Sean Benschop faces six counts of involuntary manslaughter, 13 counts of recklessly endangering another person, and one count of risking a catastrophe. Authorities believe the 42-year-old Benschop had been using an excavator Wednesday when the remains of the four-story building gave way and toppled onto an attached Salvation Army thrift store. (AP)

Boy, 4, finds gun and kills his father

PRESCOTT VALLEY — A 4-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed his father at a Prescott Valley home, authorities in northern Arizona said. The shooting occurred Friday when the 35-year-old man and his young son were visiting from Phoenix. Police said the boy found a gun in the living room and accidentally fired it. A bullet hit his father, Justin Stanfield Thomas. (AP)

Body believed to be kidnapped girl, 15

BOONE, Iowa — Authorities planned to conduct an autopsy Saturday on a body found in a river that is believed to be that of a 15-year-old girl who was abducted more than two weeks ago. Investigators are confident that the body found Friday night in the Des Moines River is that of Kathlynn Shepard, who was abducted in Dayton, about 20 miles north of Boone, on May 20. (AP)
