Obama to be keynote speaker at Coast Guard Academy

NEW LONDON, Conn. — President Obama will give the keynote address at the Coast Guard Academy commencement exercises this week, the White House said.

Obama travels to New London on Wednesday. The White House says he arrives and departs on Air Force One. His remarks will be closed to the public.

Presidents traditionally address the graduating class at one of the five federal service academies on a rotating basis. Obama addressed the graduating class at West Point last year. He had given the address at the Coast Guard in 2011.

“This is an incredible opportunity for us to showcase the academy and the city of New London to an international audience,” said Rear Admiral Sandra Stosz in a statement. Stosz is the superintendent of the Coast Guard Academy.
