Militant arrested in Sinai attacks
EL-ARISH — Egypt announced the arrest of a militant sought for plotting and executing deadly attacks last year on a police station and a bank in the Sinai Peninsula. Officials said police captured Hamada Abu Shita in a raid on his hideout Saturday. Abu Shita was sentenced to death in absentia Aug. 14 for his part in the 2011 attacks. (AP)

US drones kill 5 suspected militants
ISLAMABAD — US drones fired missiles at a vehicle and a house in a Pakistani tribal area bordering Afghanistan on Saturday, killing at least five suspected militants, Pakistani officials said. The strikes in the North Waziristan tribal area were the first since news that a top commander of the powerful Haqqani militant network was killed in a drone strike late last month. (AP)

Pirates say hostage slain over ransom
MOGADISHU — Somali pirates who have been holding a hijacked ship for nearly two years killed a Syrian hostage crew member and wounded another to protest delayed ransom payment, a pirate leader said. The ship MV Orna that was hijacked off Seychelles in 2010. (AP)
