10,000 rally over denied abortion in Ireland


DUBLIN — About 10,000 people marched through Dublin on Saturday in memory of the dentist who died of blood poisoning in an Irish hospital after being denied an abortion. PARIS — Groups opposed to President Francois Hollande’s plans to legalize gay marriage and gay adoptions took to the streets Saturday across France. Hollande said he would enact his ‘‘marriage for everyone’’ plan, but vocal opposition has divided the country. (AP)


Police stage protest against austerity


MADRID — Police officers from across Spain protested the government’s austerity measures affecting them, including frozen pensions and the elimination of their Christmas bonus. More than 5,000 people paraded Saturday to the Interior Ministry building. (AP)
