BEIRUT — Gulf Arab forces fighting Yemeni rebels suffered one of the most significant blows since the start of their campaign in March, with 45 troops from the United Arab Emirates killed Friday in Yemen’s Marib province.
Mounting casualties will test the will of Saudi and UAE rulers to extend their campaign of helping Yemen’s government in its battle against the Houthis.
The Sunni nations say it is a proxy conflict with Iran. Western diplomats have expressed skepticism on the level of Iran’s involvement.
