Jansen, Dodgers agree: 5 years, $80m
The Los Angeles Dodgers are bringing back their reliable closer, agreeing to an $80 million five-year contract to keep All-Star Kenley Jansen, a person with knowledge of the deal told the AP. The 29-year-old righthander had a career-best 47 saves last season for the Dodgers, who won their fourth straight NL West title but lost a six-game NL Championship Series to the eventual World Series champion Chicago Cubs. Los Angeles also was working to re-sign third baseman Justin Turner. Jansen had a 1.83 ERA with 104 strikeouts over 71 appearances and 68⅔ innings. . . The Tampa Bay Rays finalized a two-year, $12.5 million contract with free agent catcher Wilson Ramos. The signing provides the 29-year-old, who’s recovering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, an opportunity to earn an additional $5.75 million in incentives. Ramos was a NL All-Star last season with the Washington Nationals.

Kiffin to coach Florida Atlantic
Lane Kiffin is about to be a head coach again, after agreeing to start anew and take over at Florida Atlantic. Kiffin’s soon-to-be-former boss, Alabama coach Nick Saban, confirmed the hiring and said his offensive coordinator will remain with the Crimson Tide for the College Football Playoff. Kiffin has been the offensive coordinator at Alabama for the last three seasons, helping the Crimson Tide win last season’s national championship. FAU will be Kiffin’s third collegiate head coaching job, and the first since USC fired him in 2013 . . . Notre Dame quarterback DeShone Kizer declared for the NFL Draft, giving up his senior season. . . No. 1 Alabama placed four players on the Associated Press All-America team, most of any school, and Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson and fellow Heisman Trophy finalists Jabrill Peppers of Michigan and Dede Westbrook of Oklahoma were also first-team selections . . . James ‘‘Jimbo’’ Elrod, an All-American defensive end who played on Oklahoma’s 1974 and 1975 national championship teams, died in a car wreck, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said. He was 62 . . . Revs hold 13 from expansion draft
The New England Revolution protected 11 players from selection in the 2016 MLS Expansion Draft, the club announced, including midfielder Diego Fagundez and midfielder Lee Nguyen. Midfielders Scott Caldwell and Zachary Herivaux are automatically protected as homegrown players. The 13 players will be unavailable for selection by Atlanta United FC or Minnesota United FC in Tuesday’s draft . . . Cristiano Ronaldo won his third Ballon d'Or award, which this year is being handed out by France Football magazine separately from FIFA. Ronaldo also took home the Ballon d'Or prize in 2013 and 2014, and the FIFA award in 2008. . . Dario Gradi, who was honored by Queen Elizabeth II in 1998 for services to the game, has temporarily stepped aside as director of football at Crewe Alexandra, the fourth-tier club said. Gradi is serving his suspension amid a widening investigation into sexual abuse by youth coaches in Britain.

League to study officiating change
The NBA is going to take a look at having more officials on the court. The league said that nine upcoming NBA Development League games will feature four- and five-person crews instead of the customary three, in an effort to see if having additional officials involved affects the game. The first of the trial games is Dec. 26 . . . HBO said Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James will be the executive producer of a documentary on Muhammad Ali for the network. The film will be directed by Antoine Fuqua, who also helmed the boxing drama ‘‘Southpaw’’ and ‘‘Training Day.’’ Ali died June 3 at the age of 74.

The Crimson jumped two spots to No. 4 after a pair of victories last week. Boston College, Boston University, and UMass-Lowell also moved up, and rank fifth, sixth, and seventh, respectively, in the USCHO.com poll . . . Russia’s doping cover-up went far beyond the Olympics, according to a vast archive of e-mails released by a World Anti-Doping Agency investigator. Besides the 12 medal winners from the 2014 Winter Olympics whose samples were supposedly tampered with, messages show a system that covered up drug use by blind athletes and children as young as 15.
