    2016 Girls’ Basketball All-Scholastics

    Players of the Year

    Brianna Herlihy, Braintree, senior

    The Bay State Carey MVP and two-time All-Scholastic helped the Wamps capture state titles in 2014 and 2015 and captained the team to a 22-1 record this year. She finished with over 1,000 points and is committed to Villanova.

    Nicole Jorgensen, Quincy, senior

    The 6-foot-5-inch center surpassed the 1,000-point and 1,000-rebound marks this season. Jorgensen, a team captain, also broke the school’s single-season scoring record. She will play basketball at the URI next year.

    Anna Kelly, Lexington, senior

    Kelly earned her third All-Scholastic nod after breaking Lexington’s all-time and single-season scoring records. A three-time Middlesex League MVP, the guard finished the season with 636 points and ended her career with 2,015.

    Jessica Lezon, North Reading, senior

    The Cape Ann League co-MVP and four-time league All-Star averaged 18 points and 16 rebounds per game, leading the Hornets to the Division 3 North final. Lezon, a 6-foot-5-inch center, ended her career with 1,109 points.

    The Holy Cross-bound forward led the Shamrocks to their first state championship. The three-time league all-star averaged 15.6 points and 13.3 rebounds per game this season and finished her career with 922 points.

    All-Scholastics

    Colleen Corcoran, Bishop Fenwick, senior

    The Catholic Central League MVP averaged 12.5 points and 13 rebounds per game while leading the Crusaders to the Division 3 state title. Corcoran will continue her basketball career at Le Moyne College.

    Stephanie Flynn, Hanover, senior

    Flynn was named Patriot Fisher MVP after propelling the Indians to an undefeated regular season. A 1,000-point scorer, the forward is a four-time league all-star. She will continue her basketball career at Columbia.

    Marissa Gattuso, Woburn, junior

    The Tanners captured the Division 1 North title behind the play of Gattuso, a point guard who averaged 14.8 points and six assists per game. the junior guard also plays soccer and tennis for Woburn.

    Justine Gaziano, Natick, senior

    Gaziano averaged 24.8 points per game and became Red Hawks’ all-time leading scorer. The guard helped Natick reach the Division 1 state championship game and earned Bay State Herget MVP honors. She will play at Brown.

    Joie Grassi, Plymouth North, junior

    A two-time All-Scholastic, Grassi reached the 1,000-point milestone and was named a Patriot League Keenan All-Star. The 5-foot-11-inch forward was also the Patriot Keenan MVP last season as a sophomore.

    Gianni Hill, Pope John, senior

    The Tigers’ all-time leading scorer averaged 18 points and 7.8 assists per game to help the team reach the Division 4 North finals. A point guard and three-time Catholic Central League Small MVP, Hill hopes to play college basketball.

    Jaqualah Holliman, Fenway, senior

    Holliman was named the Boston City League championship MVP after leading the Panthers to the City title. The three-time City League All-Star ended her career with 1,036 points and will play basketball at Fairleigh Dickinson.

    Emily Houle, Attleboro, senior

    Houle was named Hockomock MVP after a season in which she averaged 15.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. The captain finished her career as a two-time league all-star with 1,025 points and 644 rebounds.

    Masseny Kaba, Cathedral, junior

    The 6-foot-3-inch center and co-MVP of the Catholic Central Small scored 20 points in the Division 4 state championship to help the Panthers bring home the title. Kaba hopes to play basketball and study medicine in college.

    Claire Markey, Chelmsford, senior

    Markey, a point guard, averaged a triple-double with 18 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists per game. Her efforts earned the Merrimack Valley Division 2 Player of the Year award. She scored 1,202 points in her career.

    Shannon Murphy, Watertown, junior

    A Middlesex League all-star, the 6-foot-1-inch Murphy averaged 10 points and eight rebounds per game and helped Watertown win the Division 2 North and Eastern Mass. titles. Murphy is verbally committed to Holy Cross.

    Katherine Nelson, Bishop Feehan, junior

    Nelson has already surpassed the 1,000-point mark and averaged 18.2 points per game this season. The three-time Eastern Athletic Conference All-Star scored 20 points to help the Shamrocks capture the Division 1 state title.

    Coaches of the Year

    Division 1: Michael Deady, Bishop Feehan

    Deady called this year’s Shamrocks ‘‘the greatest team in Bishop Feehan history’’ after they won the first state title in school history. Deady has a 326-89 record over 20 seasons and has won 12 Eastern Athletic Conference titles.

    Division 2: Laney Clement-Holbrook, Oliver Ames

    Clement-Holbrook holds the record for wins by a Massachusetts high school girls’ basketball coach. In 40 years she is 645-213 at Oliver Ames. Clement-Holbrook guided the Tigers to the Division 2 Eastern Mass. final this year.

    Division 3: Adam DeBaggis, Bishop Fenwick

    The fifth-year coach led the Crusaders to the Division 3 state title and has a 78-42 record at Fenwick. A Franklin grad and Worcester State alum, DeBaggis has also coached volleyball for seven years and has a 121-37 record.

    Division 4: Steve Barrett, West Bridgewater

    A member of the Mass. Coaches Hall of Fame, Barrett notched his 600th win this season. He led West Bridgewater to a 20-0 regular season and a Mayflower Athletic Conference title. Barrett has 613 wins in 35 years of coaching.
