Weather matters, now more than ever, as forecast patterns can feel unpredictable, our storms increasingly wild. That’s why the Boston Globe is expanding its weather coverage, providing more timely stories, compelling visuals, and live storm updates – additions to help readers navigate their daily lives and be better prepared for whatever weather event strikes next.

We’re calling it Globe Weather HQ and we want it to become your destination weather source for daily forecasting and the science behind it all.

The team will be anchored by a pair of best-in-class meteorologists: Ken Mahan, a Worcester native who will lead our forecasting, along with veteran meteorologist and New England favorite Dave Epstein, a name many of you have grown to trust for his accurate and often engaging Globe forecasts. Together Mahan and Epstein will cover all things weather – from more frequent daily updates to severe-weather predictions, delving deep and offering the kind of in-depth analysis that’s a Globe hallmark.

Mahan has spent time both on air and behind the camera in national and local TV markets. He joins the Globe from NBC News and the “Today Show,” where he has served as a morning meteorologist and weather producer, supplying forecasting and science to on-air talent. His career also includes experience as a broadcast meteorologist for television stations in Springfield, Providence, western Wisconsin, and Alaska, where he braved plenty of extreme weather.

Epstein will continue to share his expert forecasts with readers, while also delivering his signature breakdowns of why it’s all happening.

Both will be answering your weather questions, and are eager to hear your story ideas and feedback on what types of weather coverage you like best. Feel free to reach out here.
