Bostonians and the entire New England area will be able to savor one more day of a late spring warm-up, courtesy of a dominant high-pressure system that’s delivering plenty of sunshine, a helpful northerly flow, and a lot more comfortable air across the surface.
Temperatures will gradually rise 5 to 10 degrees above average, with Metro Boston having a good shot at reaching the low 70s — a slight northerly breeze will minimize cooler ocean air trying to enter into the city. The northern air will also deliver more dry weather across the region, dropping dew points and making the air feel more comfortable. The wind may shift to the east later in the afternoon, keeping highs right at 70 or 71 degrees.
Temperatures throughout interior Southern New England will soar into the upper 70s with a handful of 80-degree readings likely.

Overall, it will be a fantastic day that will feel more like mid-June. Skies will be mostly sunny with a few non-disruptive high clouds. If you do plan on spending extended time outdoors, it would be a good idea to grab some sunscreen with a higher risk of sun burn for unprotected skin.
The only drawback to Tuesday’s nice weather? The warmer air will unfortunately help spread tree pollen, which may aggravate allergy symptoms.

But the pleasant conditions will soon come to an end. We should see a shift in the weather pattern beginning Tuesday night when the first of three low-pressure systems enters the region, spoiling the warmer weather for the rest of the week and introducing periods of light rain.
The jet stream provides clues that tell us what the set-up may look like. The bright streaks below are where storm systems usually develop and track along — notice how New England stays under the brighter colors as we move from Wednesday into Saturday. The bowing of the jet stream indicates cooler air pushing into the region from the northwest.

That said, the first system is set to bring light rain and cooler air through the region Wednesday. You can see below there’s another system tracking behind Wednesday’s storm, set to arrive Thursday afternoon.

Here’s a look at forecast rainfall totals through Friday:

Tuesday’s breakdown
Southern New England: Radiant sunshine will prevail nearly anywhere you reside. A few clouds may linger but won’t hinder temperatures driving into the mid- and upper 70s anywhere west of I-95. A handful of 80-degree readings are possible between Worcester and Springfield, and then into northern Connecticut and Rhode Island. Winds otherwise stay light.
Western Mass.: A beautiful day on tap with mostly sunny skies boosting temperatures into the low 70s. Pittsfield, Greenfield, and North Adams will stay warmer than heavily wooded areas and shaded towns in between, where temps stay just below 70. Winds will remain light throughout the day.
Cape and Islands: A gorgeous day with lots of sun and minimal wind, although the slight oceanic breeze will keep temperatures a bit cooler, settling into the mid-60s. Ocean temps will be in the low to mid-50s, enough to keep the cooler air headed inland.
Northern New England: Widespread high pressure will keep all three northern states in great shape today. Vermont will see temperatures in the low 70s, with the highest mountain peaks sticking to the upper 60s. New Hampshire will mostly be in the low 70s, but Manchester and Concord will likely surpass 75. Coastal Maine will stay in the upper 60s, while inland areas will reach the low 70s.
