Three boys were taken to local hospitals with stab wounds after a large group of juveniles engaged in a physical confrontation at the MBTA’s Andrew Station in South Boston on Wednesday, officials said.
The confrontation occurred just before 4 p.m. and all resulting injuries were “non life threatening,” MBTA Transit Police Superintendent Richard Sullivan said in an email.
A spokesperson for Boston Emergency Medical Services said crews responded to the station for an “incident related to a stabbing,” but couldn’t confirm the condition of the boys or the specific hospitals they were taken to.
John Lam, an employee at Andrew Square Liquors, said a man entered the store around 4 p.m. and told Lam he “got stabbed.” The man, who Lam said appeared to be between 18 and 20 years old, asked him to call 911.
Although the man “looked to be all right,” Lam said “a lot of blood” was coming from his shoulder. Lam said the injury did not appear fatal, and said the man waited inside the store for EMS to arrive.
“[EMS] treated his stab wound and took him away after,” said Lam, who noted the man was “pretty close-lipped” about how he acquired his wound and whether or not anyone else was involved. The liquor store is across the street from Andrew Station, according to Lam, who said the man walked over from the station.
Sullivan said multiple people potentially involved in the stabbing were detained, but did not comment on the specific number of suspects.
At 4:19 p.m., Red Line trains were “temporarily bypassing” the station at the request of Transit Police, according to an MBTA post on X. By 4:28 p.m., Red Line trains had resumed service to the station, the MBTA said in another post.
The stabbing remains under investigation, Sullivan said.
