Joseph Case High School in Swansea will be closed Friday after a fire broke out in a storage room Thursday afternoon, officials said.
Shortly before 3 p.m., firefighters responded to a box alarm indicating smoke inside the Joseph Case High School, according to a statement from the department.
Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke in and around the ceiling of a first floor hallway, and soon discovered a fire burning in a storage room down the hallway.
There were no students in the building because they were already dismissed for the day.
Firefighters put out the fire by extending several hose lines down the first floor hallway, the statement said. There were no reported injuries.
There was fire damage in the storeroom and smoke damage throughout the first floor hallway.
The investigation is ongoing, but authorities believe the fire was accidental.
“Companies did a great job stretching multiple handlines into the building, finding the seat of the fire, and containing the fire to a single storeroom,” Swansea Fire chief Eric Hajder said. “This fire could have been much worse without the quick action of the companies that responded.”
