Sunshine returns with comfortable temperatures and an evening hint of fall

The low humidity makes for great sleeping weather, which is expected to last through Friday.

Last night featured a couple of showers and even a thunderstorm as some colder than average air crossed the region at high levels of the atmosphere. A few towns even briefly saw heavy rainfall.

Today will feature dry conditions and pleasant temperatures reaching the upper-70s and low-80s. Dew points are going to remain in the comfortable range, staying in the 50s.

Another bonus to all of this dry air? When we see dew points like this along with clear skies at night, it allows temperatures to fall to the upper-50s to low-60s. This is what many consider great sleeping weather and this comfortable air will likely last into Friday.

It’s instructive and interesting to look at how variable the weather can be this time of the year. The highest temperature we’ve had on this date is 100 degrees back in 1944 and a very cool Aug. 13 in the 60s back in 1996 with showers. Last year was interestingly also cool on this date, only reaching a high of 73.

A small weather system will bring some cloudiness and the chance for a shower Thursday night followed by more sunshine on Friday.

The next real forecast challenge comes toward the weekend when a frontal system approaches. This front is going to bring more cloudiness, and increase in humidity and also the chance for more significant showers. It’s still too early to talk about the timing of this storm. It could arrive Saturday, but it may also hold off until Saturday night or Sunday. Whatever happens, this weather system will be the catalyst ensuring that any tropical activity does not reach our latitude.

Some showers are likely either Saturday or Sunday, but the timing is still unclear.COD Weather
