NBC10 Boston has laid off five members of its “special projects” team, which includes investigative journalists, a source familiar with the situation confirmed on Wednesday.

The source said that the layoffs, which occurred Wednesday, did not eliminate the entire special projects unit. In recent months, the team has produced specials on topics ranging from Storrowed moving trucks to a husband and wife who have skirted rent payments in Worcester County for decades.

No additional layoffs are expected, the source said. An NBC spokesperson declined to comment on the reasons behind the job cuts.

This year, projects by the team won two regional Edward R. Murrow Awards — one for investigative reporting into child victims of human trafficking, and one for a news documentary on the winner of a $3 million lottery ticket.

The layoffs at NBC10, also known as WBTS-TV, are just the latest workforce and programming shakeups to hit local television stations this year. In July, the Globe reported that at least 13 staff members had parted ways with Boston 25 since the beginning of the year, and GBH announced in May that it had suspended the production of three of its television shows amid layoffs.
