Boston police seeking four young men in connection with downtown assault

Boston police are seeking four men in connection with a Sept. 13 assault in the downtown area that left another man seriously injured, authorities said.

Just before 11 p.m., the man was found lying unconscious on his side at the corner of North and Union streets near Faneuil Hall, police said.

The man sustained a “major injury” to his head in the attack, according to a police report, which listed his age as between 18 and 40.

“Due to the severity of the injuries to the victim, full notifications were made,” police said, meaning the victim’s injuries were serious or potentially life-threatening, and necessitated the response of detectives and a prosecutor from the Suffolk district attorney’s office.

The man’s condition wasn’t available Tuesday morning.

Police released surveillance images of the suspects and asked anyone with information to contact them.

“Community members wishing to assist this investigation anonymously can do so by calling the CrimeStoppers Tip Line at 1 (800) 494-TIPS or by texting the word ‘TIP’ to CRIME (27463),” police said. “The Boston Police Department will stringently guard and protect the identities of all those who wish to help this investigation in an anonymous manner.”

This breaking news story will be updated when more information is released.
